This, if we ignore all the heart-wrenching breaks in character that gave this musical so much meaning, is my favourite part. This is my favourite demonstration of Starkid’s incredible knowledge of the very root of Harry Potter: love. After the terrible dissolution of his and Ron’s friendship, all Harry wants is someone to be there, to tell him it’s okay, and I was fine, just fine when James appeared but when Harry said, “Dad?” with that crack in his voice, I just lost it. Because underneath the hero persona and the sass and the douchebaggery, all Harry wants is to be loved, and here is one of the only people who he knows would have, and will, love him until the end of time, who he’d thought had been lost forever, and who could make everything alright, even if he wasn’t really there.
